What do you REALLY feel about being a part of Nova Voce?

We could bring out all the cliches to put into words what Nova Voce members think about the choir. Old saws like ‘the best thing since sliced bread’ or ‘it’s out of this world’ or ‘second to none’ come to mind.

But why should we borrow from the Metaphors Dictionary when we have real time comments from the horse’s mouth, so to speak . While we were on our annual pre-season retreat at Berwick Camp, our videographer and all-round great publicist, Judy Porter, grabbed a number of members to get some from the heart reactions to the question, “What do you like/love about Nova Voce?”

Here are some of the things they said.

• I like the precision, the harmonies, and the (overall) talent of the group

• I love the sound of the male voices

• I love the camaraderie and the fellowship in music

• The male voice sound is special

• We get to take that special sound to the community at large

• In a world where lots of things are troubling, singing together is one good thing we can do

• I love the idea that we can have young people join us. They are the future of the choir but also of choral music in general

• I love the variety of music – from frothy and funny to serious and intricate.

• I especially like the harmonies we are able to make

• I have loved learning more about my voice

• We find joy in singing

• We are able to make great music for all sorts of people

• Nova Voce is an auditioned choir but that just means you have to be able to sing. The ability to read music helps but you don’t have to be able to do that

• Singing in Nova Voce is just lots of fun!

• I love the fact that I am with a group of people who feel about music the same way I do

And when asked to give a ‘college cheer’ to potential members, they did not hold back. We got everything from a rah rah cheer – ‘COME JOIN US’ to these.
