This is our second year partnering with the Phoenix Community Choir as Nova Voce’s charity of choice. Our first direct, tangible support was purchasing the Phoenix Choir’s distinctive, colourful hoodies and again this year the Board has agreed to fund the purchase of hoodies for their new membership, which is always a growing number as they have an ongoing influx of youth!
Nova Voce is also exploring joining with the Phoenix Community Choir for a “ concert by donation” with the proceeds going to Phoenix programs. The Artistic Director and Music Committee are discussing possible dates during the winter months of 2016. We are excited that Phoenix has a new concert manager in the person of Scott Jones. Scott will be an excellent addition to their staff and is well known as the founder of the Choir VOX and champion of the Don’t Be Afraid Campaign.
In June we were privileged to perform in Liverpool and donate the proceeds to the North Queen’s Nursing Home Active Transportation Fund.
Last singing season Nova Voce outdid previous years in our fund raising for others. Concert revenues from our US Tour in July, whether by ticket sales or donation, went to the benefit of a charity chosen by the folks for whom we performed. We are pleased to tell you that at Ocran United Methodist Church in Sutherland, Virginia alone the donations topped $6000 and a congregation member matched it to make a total of $12,000. These funds went to the Martha Home for the Homeless. While we do not have exact figures for the remaining venues on the trip, there were seven other concerts where a minimum of 200 people attended each performance. Based on an average $10 donation per person, the grand total given to local charities is thought to be in excess of $25,000.
Thank you for your support – without your concert attendance we wouldn’t be able to touch as many lives as we’ve been able to as we bring music and a little hope to places and people that need both!
